Allow time for the legal preparation

Generally, your authorised celebrant must receive the Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month and no more than 18 months before the ceremony. A shorter notice period needs approval from a prescribed authority.

Ask about identity documents, previous marriages, the separate in-person meetings and your two adult witnesses. Visitors do not need to be Australian citizens or permanent residents to marry here.

Make the stay part of the occasion

Choose your accommodation around preparation space, dinner and the journey after your ceremony. A private dinner can be a lovely finish; ask the property about events and outside caterers first.
